Symmetric Tree

Problem statement

Given the root of a binary tree, check whether it is a mirror of itself (i.e., symmetric around its center).

Example 1:

Input: root = [1,2,2,3,4,4,3]Output: true

Example 2:

Input: root = [1,2,2,null,3,null,3]Output: false

Constraints:

  • The number of nodes in the tree is in the range [1, 1000].
  • -100 <= Node.val <= 100
Follow up: Could you solve it both recursively and iteratively?

My solution

/**
* Definition for a binary tree node.
* function TreeNode(val, left, right) {
* this.val = (val===undefined ? 0 : val)
* this.left = (left===undefined ? null : left)
* this.right = (right===undefined ? null : right)
* }
*/
/**
* @param {TreeNode} root
* @return {boolean}
*/
var isSymmetric = function(root) {
function traverse(left, right) {
if (!left && !right) {
return true
}

if (!left || !right || left.val !== right.val) {
return false
}

return traverse(left.left, right.right) && traverse(right.left, left.right)
}

return traverse(root.left, root.right)
};
